The happiest 5k on the planet
This weekend I ventured over to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with a couple of friends, excited to take part in the Colour Run! If you’re like me and have an on/off relationship with running, then this might just be the perfect event for you. There’s no timers or official winners – it’s just about having a good time and getting covered head to toe in colour.
Arriving at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, we were met with a sea of people in pristine, white T-shirts, making their way towards large inflatables arches, marking the way forward. There are no secure places to store your belongings, but fortunately we had been accompanied by our partners who kindly let us load them up with our bags. Once we dropped all our things, we headed off to join the rest of the crowd.
Get set, go!
We started off with a slow jog, but was inspired to pick the pace up when a man on crutches started to overtake us! Once we’d established a more acceptable pace (for people not hopping along on two sticks), we progressed round the course, watching clouds of powdered paint exploding into the air as we approached each kilometre. As we passed through the colour stations themselves, groups of enthusiastic volunteers vigorously threw cups of colour at us, plastering our white T-shirts with splashes of yellow, blue, orange and pink.
The finish line
As we run through the inflatable finish line, we were handed a couple packets of coloured powder and went to join in with the ‘colour festival’ – ending a fun morning by jumping up and down with the rest of the colour runners, in big clouds of coloured paint!
